Connect Marketing and Design is excited
to Announce The Winner of the
Ugliest Website Contest

We have received submissions from all over North Carolina and votes from across the country. We held this contest not just to call attention to ugly websites, (although that part is fun!), but also to help make people aware of what makes a good, effective website. Although the look and feel of a site is important, other major factors include search engine findability, usability, and organization of information, just to name a few. All of these things work together to bring visitors to the site, keep them there until they find what they are looking for, and direct them towards your goals for the site (i.e. make a purchase, contact you, sign up for your mailing list, etc.).

Now it's time to talk about a site that has none of these things!
The Ugliest Website winner is a site that took 58% of the total votes and elicited comments like "The name is catchy, but the site is lacking!" and "it's the saddest things I've ever seen!". Not only is this site ugly, but some may say it's tasteless. www.mytastynuts.com, a specialty nut roasting company is the Winner of the Ugliest Website Contest and will receive a complete site re-design with a content management system and a free P.R. package,
total value for this package is over $1800.

Special thanks goes out to the contest sponsors Artisan's Press and Itria Solutions.

To celebrate the completion of the contest, Connect Marketing and Design is introducing a great special on websites with content management systems (CMS). A CMS allows the website owner to update the website content easily from any computer. Prices start as low as $600 for our new "website lease" program. Contact us today for details about this limited offer!

What Makes a Website Ugly?

It's not only the colors, the layout and the images that make a site ugly. Ugly sites are hard to navigate or understand, impossible to find in a websearch, difficult to post content to, and simply don't represent your business well. Don't suffer in silence (or make your visitors suffer) with a ugly website anymore!

Your website may be ugly if:

  • Your logo is an animated gif that sparkles or is in flames
  • You have a Flash intro that takes more than four seconds to load
  • The layout is not well-organized
  • Your website was built before you bought your car with 100,000 miles
  • The site has too much information on the home page
  • Your site uses clipart that looks like it was designed in the 90’s
  • You can't find your site in a Google search
  • Your layout is built on tables
  • You have text that scrolls across the screen or flashes on and off
  • Every other line of text is in a different color
  • If there is too much or too little negative space
  • Your content is outdated
  • Your site was built in Yahoo site builder
  • Your webpage does not make you look like a credible professional
  • Visitors can't quickly find the focal point on the home page
  • There are no clear calls to action
  • Your website was built in Frontpage
  • You have one page with more that four different fonts on it
  • Visitors can't easily find the information they are looking for
  • The site has text saved as an image (jpeg, gif etc..)
  • Your websitesite was built before 2002
